The Life You’re Living Still Deserves Joy

There comes a moment in life when you realize something quietly but deeply unsettling:
This isn’t what I pictured.

Not the timeline.
Not the outcomes.
Not the version of life you once imagined with so much certainty.

After more than 30 years of leadership, reinvention, success, failure, rebuilding, and reflection, I’ve learned that this realization doesn’t mean something went wrong — it means something real is happening.

Many of us hold tightly to a picture of how life was supposed to look.
And when reality diverges from that picture, we mistake it for loss.

I’ve learned hard lessons along the way: Clinging to an outdated vision can rob you of the joy that’s available RIGHT NOW.

Letting go isn’t weaa kness. It’s maturity.

I’ve released careers that ended differently than planned.
Paths that closed unexpectedly.
Relationships and roles that no longer fit the person I was becoming.

Each time, I had a choice:
Stay anchored to disappointment — or step forward with intention.

Joy didn’t disappear when the picture changed.
It simply showed up differently.

It showed up as peace instead of pressure.
Clarity instead of chaos.
Depth instead of validation.
Presence instead of performance.

Leadership teaches you this if you’re paying attention: Adaptation isn’t surrender. It’s evolution.

And the story you’re living — even if it’s not the one you imagined — still deserves to be honored, lived fully, and met with gratitude.

THIS CHAPTER COUNTS

And joy is still available — if you’re willing to let go of the picture and live the story.
